Books read previously by our group

At the last meeting a few of you requested a book list that had the previous books we have read and discussed as a group. So I wanted to supply you with that.

Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen (August 2009)

The group loved this book, it remains among our favorites

The Time Travelers Wife by Audrey Niffenegger (September 2009)

The group was split 50/50 some of us loved it others not as much. Most agreed it was difficult to follow at times

Julie and Julia by Julie Powell (October/November 2009)

Sarah Stevens was the only person crazy enough to like this book lol. Sorry for throwing you under the bus just now. It was done in love!!

The Outlander by Gil Adamson (December 2009)

The group really enjoyed this book

The Monster of Florence by Douglas Preston (January 2010)
The group loved this book and the change from fiction to non-fiction

Mr. Shivers by Robert Jackson Bennett (February 2010)

The group did not like this book we felt it was way too predictable

The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs (March 2010)
The group loved this book, it remains among our favorites

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon (April 2010)

The group really enjoyed this book. We were very intrigued by the perspective it was written from

Crow Lake by Mary Lawson (May 2010)

This was not a book our group enjoyed very much. Nothing horrible to say but nothing great either

Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah (June 2010)

The group was split 50/50. It presented some good questions but wasn’t the greatest read

The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks (July 2010)

The group enjoyed this book but agreed it was hard to read. Very sad

The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton (September 2010)

Most of our group would consider this one of the best if not the best book we have read!!

House Rules by Jodi Picoult (October 2010)

The group was disappointed with this book. We felt the ending left something to be desired

A Reliable Wife by Robert Goolrick (November 2010)

We all agreed that this book was bland and didn’t draw us in

The Help by Kathryn Stockett (December 2010)

Another favorite among the group and tired with the Forgotten Garden as the best book thus far

If I Stay by Gayle Forman (January 2011)

The group felt this book presented some good questions but it wasn’t a great read

Noah’s Compass by Anne Tyler (February 2011)

The group felt that unfortunately the description of this book was much better than the book itself

The True Story of Hansel and Gretel by Louise Murphy (March 2011)

The group was split 50/50 we all agreed that it was written well but didn’t all agree that we loved the story

Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford (April 2011)

Most of our group said we were intrigued by the look into our countries own past but don’t have a decision either way given that several of us were unable to finish it

Memory Keepers Daughter by Kim Edwards (May/June 2011)

The group really enjoyed this book in the end but said it took some time getting into

Wicked by Gregory Maguire (July 2011)

The majority of our group did not like this book. We were left with too many questions and felt that is was just a little too strange

Danger in the Shadows by Dee Henderson (August 2011)

We don’t have a group decision on this book. Many of us did not read it and the rest didn’t finish it. So I guess we probably didn’t really care for it lol

Life of Pi by Yann Martel (September 2011)

A few of us loved this book however the majority did not care for it. We did however have some good conversations about which side of the fence we landed on

Packing for Mars by Mary Roach (October 2011)

The majority of us found this book lacking and not as funny as we had hoped. Most could not get into it

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini (November 2011)
The group as a whole didn’t care for this book. Although we did agree that the main character was someone of questionable character and we didn’t like them

The Lake of Dreams by Kim Edwards (December 2011)

The majority of our group didn’t care for this

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern (January 2012)
This book is fairly new and therefore hard to find at the library. Those of us that were able to find and read the book were divided on our like/dislike of its character developement and ending. Overall we said it was a good book but left somethings lacking

The Queen of Babble by Meg Cabot (February 2012)
As a group we loved this book. It was a fun easy read that made for some great conversation and really good laughs.

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Anne Barrows (March 2012)
The majority of our group really enjoyed this book. It made for a great discussion and most of us felt that it was easy to feel invested in the characters and plot. Some of us really enjoyed reading a book composed completely of letters while others of us felt it made the book harder to get into at first.

The Undomestic Goddess by Sophia Kinsella (April 2012)
The majority of our group liked the light hearted feel of this book. It made us laugh and was a great pick me up. We would recommend this book.

The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield (May 2012)
We loved this book. It kept us on our toes and her writting style had us all hooked. We all agreed however that the book should have ended before the nice little wrap up section at the end. It wasn't needed. Overall we agree this has been added to the list of favorites!!

An American Childhood by Anne Dillard (June 2012)
We hated this!! No one finished it. Enough said
